Two major players in the large SUV/Crossover segment have added hybrid drivetrains for their vehicles this year, the Toyota Highlander, and this Ford Explorer. The Explorer Hybrid is only available on the Limited trim with the 301A package, adding 20" hand-polished aluminium rims, active noise cancellation, a 3.73 rear axle, a pedestrian alert sounder, and the 3.3L naturally aspirated Cyclone V6 engine with a hybrid system.
The electric motor puts out about 35 kW of power and charges a 1.5 kWh battery located under the second row seating area. We go over the options on this 2020 Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid 4WD and the specifications for the engine, transmission, and how it stacks up against the 2.3L EcoBoost engine normally equipped on this trim. We also discuss how this vehicle compares for fuel economy against the EcoBoost engine, and how the pricing and trims work against the 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
