2020 BMW X7 M50i Review

The BMW X7 is a vehicle we've been eager to test for some time now. We're looking at the very well equipped 2020 BMW X7 M50i in Ametrine Metallic paint.

Our full tour and comprehensive review of the 2020 BMW X7 M50i G07 goes over everything buyers might want to know before purchasing a $134,700.00 full size luxury flagship SUV. The X7 M50i is the top-end trim for Canada in 2020, replacing the X7 xDrive50i that was available last year. It uses BMW's 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine producing 523 horsepower, 553 lb-ft of torque, matted to BMW's 8 speed sport Steptronic automatic transmission and xDrive AWD.

This M Performance SUV has BMW's signature Cerium Grey metallic accents, shadowline exterior trim, M Sport brakes, 2-axle air suspension, and the M aerodynamics package. We go over all the features and options available on the G07 X7 M50i including the build options and features on this specific vehicle. Available leather colours include 5 different colours, and the option of Extended or Full BMW Individual Merino leather.

A wide range of paint options are available from the factory including this Ametrine Metallic paint which looks like a wine-purple. We discuss the Premium Package, Driving Assistant Package, BMW Drive Recorder, BMW Active Comfort Drive with Live Preview, and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound Audio System. As the BMW X7 is a 3-row SUV with options for 6 or 7 passenger seating,

TestDrive takes the time to go over the second and third row of seats, by showing how much space is in each row for passengers, and how easy it is for adults to get into either row. We go over all the features of the second and third rows including the power side window sunshades, panoramic SkyLounge glass, heated outboard seats, 5-zone automatic climate control, USB-C charging outlets, cupholders, and the third-row sunroof.

All the seats on the G07 X7 are power operated, and we show how they work and how long they take to setup. TestDrive then takes the 2020 BMW X7 M50i on a road test to talk about how this full-size luxury SUV performs on the road, how it handles, and what the ride quality is like.

We discuss how it compares to the 2020 BMW 750Li xDrive we drove several months ago, and what the X7 has to offer buyers if they plan on choosing this over the 7 Series. We do some light performance testing including typical driving in Sport Plus mode, along with a 0-100kph test using Launch Control.

We wrap up our full episode on the 2020 BMW X7 M50i by going over our real-world fuel economy testing during the week, along with our 100km test loop in Eco Pro mode, and discuss what we ultimately like and dislike about this flagship BMW SUV.
