2020 Mazda CX-9 vs 2020 Kia Sorento

Mid-size consumer crossovers are all the rage, we're looking at two popular but aging models to see which one might be the best for you. Our Showdown is on the 2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature AWD versus the 2020 Kia Sorento SX V6 AWD.

Our full episode of TestDrive Showdown goes over these two popular Canadian mid-size three-row crossovers, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature finished in snowflake white pearl paint vs the 2020 Kia Sorento SX V6 finished in imperial blue paint. Our comprehensive comparison and review of these two vehicles goes over everything that's different and similar between them.

We start off with the difference in engine, power, transmission, towing capabilities, and Canadian MSRP based on our test vehicles. We go over the interior differences with both of these vehicles, including the options and features available on both, and which features and options are unique to one over the other that might be interesting to real-world buyers.

After we discuss the dimensions and specifications, including exterior length, wheelbase, width, height, ground clearance, and towing capabilities, followed by the most important interior specs such as the front, 2nd row, and 3rd row headroom and legroom, along with the cargo capacity for both of these crossovers.

We then take both on a comprehensive road test back-to-back along the same route to talk about the interior noise control level for both at 50 kph & 100 kph, the ride, handling, and performance of each one, and how each feels on the road.

We discuss some of the differences between Mazda's 2.5L turbo 4 cylinder engine and how it compares to Kia's 3.3L naturally aspirated V6. We have footage of an adult sitting in the second and third rows of each vehicle, as well as how easy it is for passengers to get in and out from both rows.

We wrap up our comprehensive comparison between the 2020 Mazda CX-9 Signature and 2020 Kia Sorento SX V6 with our real-world fuel economy testing, the differences in warranties offered on these vehicles here in Canada, and which one you might want to consider based on some general use cases.
