2020 Subaru Outback XT Premier Review

Subaru unveiled an all-new Outback for the 2020 model year, but you might not realize it if you parked next to a 2015. We go over everything you need to know about the 2020 Subaru Outback Premier and Outback XT Limited.

Our full tour and review on the 2020 Subaru Outback Premier goes in-depth with the changes for this 5th generation compact consumer crossover, and what has changed over the previous generation. We discuss why some might not realize it's a complete update as Subaru buyers told the company they loved the way the current Outback was, so little was changed this time around.

We go over the features such as the LED adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, heated wiper blades, keyless entry, power rear liftgate, and automatic power folding mirrors. We jump on the inside of the Outback Premier to go over the nappa leather found on the Premier trim, along with the new 11.6" infotainment system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear seats, dual zone automatic climate control, Subaru's new Driver Attention system which uses facial recognition, along with the standard suite of EyeSight safety technology.

We go over our thoughts on the new infotainment system including some of it's weird features that aren't explained in the owners manual, and our overall impressions of this portrait-style system. We then take the 2020 Subaru Outback Premier on a road test to talk about the 2.5L boxer 4 engine, how the CVT performs and handles, and what buyers can expect from the Symmetrical AWD system with X-Mode.

We drive the Outback around town and on regional highways to see what the 182 horsepower engine can do under typical driving situations. Afterwards we jump into a 2020 Subaru Outback XT Limited, one trim below but with the more powerful 2.4L turbocharged flat 4 producing 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque to see how the XT performs in a direct back-to-back comparison.

One of the main complaints viewers had about the 2019 Subaru Forester we featured last year was the lack of a more powerful engine, and Subaru has delivered with the Outback XT. TestDrive wraps up this episode by going over our real-world fuel economy testing for the 2020 Subaru Outback Premier along with our overall thoughts, likes, and dislikes about this $40,995.00 CAD compact crossover.
