2020 BMW Z4 M40i Review
The BMW Z Series roadsters have gone through some changes over the decades, but a new partnership with Toyota brings a new vision with the 2020 BMW Z4 M40i.
Toyota seems to be the company who wants to collaborate with everyone. First they worked with Mazda on Infotainment systems and rebagged the Mazda2 as a Yaris, now they've teamed up with BMW to produce a new compact roadster/coupé. The BMW version comes as this Z4 M40i, the 8th generation Z Roadster, and the 3rd to bear the Z4 nameplate. Our Spotlight goes in-depth with this $84,000.00 vehicle to see if it's worth this price, and whether or not you can drive it in the winter.
Our 2020 BMW Z4 M40i is about as fully loaded as you can get for the Canadian market, optioned with all the major packages and features. The M40i engine is the most powerful available at this time, though no word yet on a Z M car as of this time. The Z4 M40i is supposed to do 0-100km in 4.5 seconds, which is very quick for the price. We go over all the exterior features and design elements on this vehicle, as well as talk about the interior cognac vernasca leather, iDrive 7.0, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, and the harmon/kardon audio system.
We then take the 2020 BMW Z4 M40i roadster on a comprehensive winter driving test during a light snow storm, with minimal road plowing/de-icing to see if the winter tires and sDrive RWD setup works well enough in the snow. Our testing consists of real-world driving in the snow on normal roads.
We then wrap up our full tour and review of the Z4 by going over what we like and dislike about this vehicle, and see what other options are available to buyers looking at a prestige roadster.
