The G05 BMW X5 xDrive50i is the highest form of BMW's midsize luxury SUV sold in Canada for 2019. Our test model for Canada comes standard with M Sport and the Sport Steptronic Automatic 8-Speed transmission. This vehicle is finished in carbon black metallic paint with extended black merino leather from BMW Individual on the inside. The one option added to this $86,000 MSRP is the Premium Excellence Package which adds a suite of top-notch features to this vehicle.

Our full tour and review of the all new BMW X5 50i goes in-depth on what features are optioned on this vehicle, including full adaptive LED headlights, BMW Laser high beams, front and rear Park Distance Control with BMW Surround View and Parking Assistant, safety features like BMW Driving Assistant & Evasion Assist help to keep the vehicle safe on the road. Blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and forward collision are also included on this vehicle.

The rear dual lift-gate can be opened automatically from the key fob, swiping your foot under the lift gate area, from the interior, or even BMW's Connect iPhone app. A remote starter is also available for the first time on the X5 by pressing the key fob's lock button three times in a row. Additional features on the exterior of this X5 include the M Aerodynamics front end, shadowline exterior trim, large BMW M brakes, and 22" rims (20" rims shown for winter use).

The front comfort seats have heat, ventilation and massage features. Driver's heated steering wheel pairs well with the heated and ventilated front cup holders. Rear seats have heat and dual-zone climate, along with manual side window sun shades and soft-close doors.

BMW's digital gauge cluster allows for slight customization but mostly based on the driving profile selected. A colour HUD allows for extra information such as speed limit recognition and board computer alerts to be displayed for the driver. BMW's Ambient Air comes with the Premium Excellent Package, along with ambient lighting with 6 different colour options.

Our road test starts off with performance-oriented testing including a cold start with the 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 producing 456 horsepower. We test the 0-100km (0-60 mph) time for this vehicle and talk about some of the characteristics that make the new X5 perform and handle a lot like the G11 BMW 7 Series. We also talk about the 2 Axle Air Suspension system and the BMW Parking Assistant which offers hands-free autonomous parking. We also test the semi-autonomous Driving Assistance feature which allows drivers more confidence when driving on the road with added steering and lane keep control.

We wrap up our full tour and review of the 2019 BMW X5 xDrive50i by talking about some of our fuel economy testing, along with what we liked and disliked about this $102,000 mid-size luxury SUV.
