2018 GMC Terrain Denali
GMC's crossover SUVs have gone through some changes for 2018, including their smallest offering, the Terrain. How does the top-end trim compete with the rest? We find out! We've driven a lot of compact crossover SUVs recently, including quite a few in the consumer segment, but a number of them in the luxury market. The 2018 GMC Terrain Denali fits in the middle, somewhere near the Premium segment Acura RDX, Buick Envision, and Infiniti QX50. We go over the exterior features such as the LED headlight system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear lift gate, LED tail lights, and the exterior Hit The Road Package which adds the rear towing equipment, side running boards, and roof-mounted rack rails. Inside we go over the full leather interior, ventilated and heated front seats, heated rear seats, large panoramic sunroof, infotainment system with Bose audio, Qi wireless charging, and the bits of wood slapped on for good measure. The interior also includes the GMC Pro Grade Package. Safety technology includes lane keep assist, blind spot detection, forward collision warning, 360º camera system, but not active cruise control. You also don't have a Head-Up Display with this vehicle, nor rain-sensing wipers. We take the 2018 GMC Terrain Denali on a road test to talk about how the vehicle performs on the street, along with the expectations you'd have for this SUV as a daily driver. Fuel economy during our near 1,000km week with the Terrain averaged 9.2L/100km but requires premium fuel for the 2.0L turbocharged inline 4 engine. The 9 speed GM Automatic transmission worked well, connected to an electronic button-operated gear selector.
